Keyless vehicle module services

KVM and RFA Services

JLR KVM RFA services cover diagnosis, key authorisation and compatible module programming for keyless access and start systems.

Keyless vehicle module services

JLR KVM RFA services is provided as a vehicle-specific service. JLR KVM RFA services cover diagnosis, key authorisation and compatible module programming for keyless access and start systems.

About KVM and RFA Services

The Keyless Vehicle Module and Remote Function Actuator manage key detection, remote functions and security data on different JLR platforms. Their exact role, generation and programming requirements must be identified from the vehicle.

A Smart Key Not Found message can result from the key, aerial network, power supply, CAN communication, configuration or the module itself. Replacing the KVM or RFA without testing those inputs is high-risk guesswork.

What this service includes

  • KVM or RFA identification and full scan
  • Power, ground and network testing
  • Aerial and key-detection diagnosis
  • Compatible replacement-module assessment
  • Key programming and security alignment
  • CCF or configuration checks where required

The final scope is confirmed before work begins. No feature, key or module is treated as compatible solely because it looks correct or appears in a generic parts list.

When this service may be suitable

  • Both keys fail or behave identically
  • Passive entry fails in one or more detection zones
  • The KVM or RFA does not communicate
  • A compatible module requires replacement or configuration
  • Security DTCs indicate internal, supply or network faults

These signs help route an enquiry, but they do not replace diagnosis. Two vehicles showing the same message can require different work because their platform, software, equipment and failure history differ.

Compatibility and diagnostic checks

  • Complete DTC and failure-type suffix
  • Module part number, software and security state
  • Vehicle battery and programming support
  • Exterior and interior aerial behaviour
  • Existing key family, frequency and authorised count

We preserve the complete diagnostic evidence, including the reporting module and DTC suffixes. Low voltage, damaged wiring, lost network communication or missing hardware must be resolved before programming is presented as the answer.

How the mobile service works

  1. Identify the vehicleConfirm the registration, VIN, exact model, year and fitted security or control-module platform.
  2. Verify authority and compatibilityCheck ownership where security work is involved and prove the proposed key, part or configuration is suitable.
  3. Diagnose before changing dataTest battery condition, communication, relevant wiring and the original fault evidence.
  4. Complete the agreed serviceThe module is tested in context before replacement is considered. When a compatible module is required, we preserve available data, configure the unit, align security functions and retest every access and start mode.
  5. Validate the resultRepeat the original operating conditions, scan the vehicle and test every affected function before handover.

What to send with your enquiry

Vehicle details

  • Registration and VIN where available
  • Jaguar, Land Rover or Range Rover model
  • Exact model year and postcode
  • Whether the vehicle starts and can be moved

Fault or service details

  • Number of working keys
  • Exact warning wording and full DTC suffixes
  • Relevant part numbers or fitted retrofit details
  • Recent battery, wiring, module or key work

Photos of the current key, scan report, module labels or dashboard message can prevent the wrong part or service being selected.

Frequently asked questions

Is KVM the same as RFA?

They serve related keyless and security functions on different platform generations, but they are not interchangeable labels.

Will a replacement module arrive ready to use?

Usually not. Compatibility, configuration, security data and key authorisation may all require vehicle-specific work.

Can an aerial fault look like module failure?

Yes. A failed zone aerial, wiring fault or low voltage can prevent key detection while the main module remains functional.
